April 24, 2017 Announcements

Parents of Athletes

Save the date for this year's Heart of a Champion event with Carolinas Healthcare System! HGCS will participate in the event on June 3rd. This event serves as a FREE sports physical and heart screening, and it is available for student-athletes in grades 9-12. Participants must register online at CarolinasHealthCare.org/Heart-of-a-Champion between May 1st and May 28th. ALL participants must ride the bus from HGCS to the event site--parents may NOT drop off students at the event site. CHS will be releasing our school's arrival and screening time soon.


Terra Nova Testing: (9th-11th graders only)

Terra Nova tests will be administered April 26-28. Here are helpful tips for testing:

  • make sure your child gets plenty of rest the night before testing
  • eat a healthy breakfast
  • have your child to school on time. If they are late and testing has started, they will not be allowed to enter the classroom.
  •  Any student absent will not be able to make up the test.

 Box Top Collection
It’s time to turn in those Box Tops that you’ve been saving.  Our next collection date will be Friday, May 5th. If possible, please place Box Tops in bags of 50.  Label bags with your student’s name, grade and homeroom teacher. Please do not include any expired Box Tops.  Thank you for helping out your school!!

  • April 26-28 Terra Nova testing
  • April 28 1/2 day, High school students dismissed at 11:30. Students must be off campus by 11:40.
  • April 28 Prom (11th and 12th grade only) Students going to prom must attend school today.
  • May 5 Box Top collection due
  • May 19 Senior graduation practice/Senior fun day with Mrs. Royal (going to Sports Connection for a day of fun)
  • May 21 Baccalaureate Service 5:00 pm Family Life Center. Purchase tickets online
  • May 22 HGCS Golf Tournament (rescheduled from 4/24 rain out)
  • May 23-24 Exams
  • May 24 Last day of school 1/2 day
  • May 26 Senior parents can set up Senior display table in gyms A & B (beginning at 7:00 am)
  • May 26 Graduation 6:00 pm, Worship Center, reception to follow in gyms A & B
